Here are a few moments of the band at the Whit Friday Marches:
Gosh, it was a long night as the last two pics will show: |
|
The band waiting to play. |
|
This young lady certainly sems very happy. |
|
Watch out, the heavy mob are in town! |
|
Here is Lloyd, the bands runner, he is so fast..he is blurred on this pic! |
|
The 'fella' himself, no need to name him. |
|
An uphill march to this one, are we getting tired? |
|
This is better, a nice refreshment. |
|
Phil Siggers, our 'navigator' for the day. |
|
These guys with the striped ties really do get in the way of these pics. Who are they?. |
|
At last, a nice sleep on the way home. |
|
And another. We hope you enjoyed these pics of the Whit Friday Marches. |

The Winter Gardens, Blackpool.
The Grand Shield. |
Sat, 13th May, 2006 |
17th placing at the Grand Shield.
This was not expected at all, especially how the band played on stage.
Also, the 4 Bars Rest team had a more positive approach to our performance.
Never mind, that is contesting.
Some nice pics are below: |

Rachael, Alex and Vicky waiting for the registration.
Actually, Alex was looking for the time that the bar opens!

The Winter Gardens, Blackpool.
(The North West Area Contest). |
Sun, 12th March, 2006. |
7th placing at the North West Area.
The band felt that this was a correct reflection on the way that they performed on stage yesterday.
They are now busily preparing for the Grand Shield in May. |
 |
The Scottish Open, Glasgow.
27th Nov, 2005. |
The band performed well here and, despite fierce competition, came a creditable 8th place.
Unfortunately, this time, Phil the photographer was unable to take many pics on the day but did manage some nice 'postcard shots' of Scotland after the event.
He thought he would put them on here for you... |
 |
But....1st...
A pic of the band on stage before the performance.

Yet again the band have scored another 1st place at this contest.
The remarks on our performance by the adjudicator Geoffrey Whitham were simply 'outstanding'.

The International Centre.
25th Sept, 2005. |
Well, this was a disappointing day.
The bands performance on stage reflected on the fact that they were not in the prizes.
Never mind, we are looking forward to next weekend at the Fleetwood Contest.
One good report though was that 4 Bars Rest awarded our Soprano player, Phil Symonds 'the star player of the day' prize for our band. Well done Phil.
Here are a few pics taken today........... |

4th at the Senior Cup Contest in Blackpool, 7th May, 2005.
Another good result for the band yet again!
The band pulled out all stops on stage for the performance of Montage.
Full credit to all players on this very difficult test piece.
Special congratulations must go to every soloist on the day, they were on 1st class form.
Also, the band were very aware of the amount of 'homework' that their conductor Paul Dalton had put in over the previous weeks. Without his guidance the piece could 'have gone either way'!
Thank you very much Paul.
Lastly, thank you so much to the players that helped us out due to unforseen illness in the band just a week before. These players came in on only a weeks rehearsal!
- John Stevens (Trombone)
- Rob Tomlinson (Horn)
- Gareth Maybury (Percussion)
- Glyn Richards (Soprano)

We are back where we deserve to be!
The band enjoyed a great performance on stage at the North West Area Contest at Blackpool Winter Gardens.
The quality of their playing was very much appreciated by the Adjudicator, John Berryman.

Phil after the results.
(Well, thought it would be nice to put a pic of me on here).
After all, I am never on many pics as I always take them!! |
What a well deserved victory this was for the band.
Playing from the number 2 position, the band showed quality playing from the very 1st note.
These are just a few quotes from the 3 adjudicators:
- Impressive start, all parts are heard (David Read)
- Good opening, everything well in place and impressive (Chris Wormald)
- Well done Horns after 3 (Read/Newsome/Wormald)
- Beautiful playing from Solo Cornet (Roy Newsome)
- Quite 'moving' in cornets, horns and them terrific Basses! (Roy Newsome)
- Percussion playing at a high level (Roy Newsome)
- Wonderful Euphonium solo and fine effects in band (Roy Newsome)
- Overall, this was a quality performance from a fine band (Chris Wormald)
- A fine ending to a very good performance (Roy Newsome)
Congratulations must go to Paul and the band, for the dedication they have put in over the last few weeks in rehearsing this test piece.
They have had one or two disappointing results recently which does affect any band.
Freckleton however, 'dug in', ready in preparation for the Area Contest in March 2005.
What a way to show how well they are coping! |
