'Ponkys' Concert.

Friday 11th June 2010

The Band in the village!

Thursday evening managed to stay dry for our first 'Ponkys' Concert of the year at the Coach and Horses.

An appreciative crowd were delighted by the very first public performance by the Freckleton Youth Band, ably doirected by Jonathan Ford. The band played extremely well for such a young outfit, showing plenty of prospect for the future!

The 'Senior' Band then took to the stage (or marquee in this case!) and played a concert of mainly lighter numbers that were well recieved by our local supporters.

Thanks to our deputy players, and to the band's stalwart helpers for all their assistance on the night.

Grand Shield Safety.

Wednesday 19th May 2010

Grand Shield Relief!

On Saturday 15th May, the Band was successful in retaining its place in the Grand Shield Contest, the highest tier of the British Open Spring Festival.

The band was almost the lowest ranked in the competition, and also one of only two 1st Section bands, but achieved a creditable 14th out of 20 to avoid relegation to the next tier down.

Thanks to those players that helped us out to achieve this, and we look forward to improving our position in 2011!

Brass Festival

The 2nd Lytham Brass Festival was held yesterday, the 17th April, and was a great success again. A full list of prizewinners will be published soon, but the band performed very well at the Gala Concert, alongside the superb Nicola Howard, our guest vocal soloist.

Patrick Howard, our Solo Euphonium, won both the Slow Melody and Open sections of the festival. The Freckleton Quartet were 2nd, with the Tuba Quartet 3rd.

Thanks to the few people that helped the band out, hope you enjoyed it.

Bandsman of the Year

Monday 21st December

Shock Joint award!

At our Lowther Christmas concert, the Bandsman of the year award was presented by Paul Dalton, our Musical Director.

This year, in an unprecedented move, he awarded it to 2 people jointly, Rachael Shore and Gareth Maybury.

Rachael is one of the most committed and reliable members of the band, and is as close to a 100% attendee I've ever known.

Gareth is a versatile multi instrumentalist, who has played Percussion, BBb and EEb Bass, Solo Euph, 2nd Euph, Baritone, 1st and 2nd Trombone during the year to help us out depending what we needed when he arrived.

Well done, and thank you, to both worthy recipients!
