Dave Hogg

Date of Birth: 29/05/70

Started playing in: 1981

1st band: South East Hants

Previous bands: Hampshire Youth

Memorable moments:

Boss recalls winning The 1st Section National Championships with Freckleton Band at The Symphony Hall in Birmingham.

More about Dave:

Dave joined Freckleton Band in 1994 (over 10 years ago).

Dave's Hobbies:

Dave is a very interesting person. In 2003, he took a year off work to see a bit more of the world.

This took him to all corners of the earth, from China to Cuba and from New Zealand to Nova Scotia.

Even though Dave was not banding during this time, it did not stop him from sampling some of the musical culture that the world had to offer.

He has added to the band's percussion equipment, a Thai Frog Croaker! Should be interesting to see which Test Piece this is used for!

Dave also saw a few Brass Bands out there too.

He specifically mentions 'the wonderful painted mural on the bandroom wall in Gisbourne (New Zealand)', and 'watching a band on the march in Guatamala'.

Now that he is back to the delights of work, Dave says that he would recommend taking a year off to anyone.

His words were: "how else can you climb volcanoes, canoe in remote lakes, sample sushi (as your granny used to make it), learn the 'local lingo' or bungy jump all in one holiday?"

Dave is also a keen runner. His future plans are to enter the Freckleton Marathon in 2005 and beat his last years time.

Dave Little

Date of Birth: 04/04/75

Started playing in: 1990

1st band: Longridge.

More about Dave:

David started his musical career in his hometown of Longridge near Preston in Lancashire. Having progressed quickly through the ranks of the local Junior Band and B Band, David became bass trombonist with the successful Longridge band directed by Tony Hindley. Around this time he became one of the youngest members of the Lancashire County Youth Brass Band where he was bass trombonist and percussionist (not at the same time!) for 7 years. Whilst studying Bass Trombone at Huddersfield University with Leslie Storey and Neville Roberts (Halle), David continued to peruse his self-taught interest in percussion and joined the famous Besses ‘o th’ Barn band where he enjoyed two years of busy membership.

It is as a bass trombonist in Big Bands where David has achieved most success. Having been a former member of the Northern Jazz Orchestra and the award winning Wigan Youth Jazz Orchestra, David was afforded the opportunity to tour the Far East, Australia, New York, New Orleans and most recently Miami, Florida as well as many ventures into Europe. Over the last four years David has regularly appeared with the Andy Prior Orchestras during the ‘Magic of Sinatra’ and ‘Big Band Crazy’ tours and is regularly engaged to back visiting international artists including James Morrisson, Bobby Shew and Phil Woods. Currently David is playing regularly with the Intrada Brass Ensemble.

and Wigan Jazz Club Big Band though most of his musical energy is directed towards his teaching post in Wigan where he has been Head of Brass and Music Centres since 1997. Having been a member of the Freckleton Band in 1997 David is delighted to be back in the ranks alongside partner Vicky (flugel) and favourite drinking partner Andy Cattanach.

David is Musical Director of the Wigan Youth Brass Band.

And M.D. of the Lancashire Schools Brass Band.
