John Stevens

Date of Birth: 20/02/80

Started playing in: 1992

1st band: Lancashire Youth Band

Previous bands: Poulton, Freckleton, Fodens (Richardson).

Memorable moments:

  • Winning 1 st section nationals 1997-Freckleton.
  • Festival of Brass 2004- memorable performance under Bramwell Tovey with Fodens.
  • Backing James Morrison with a big band.
  • Yaroslavl

More about John:

John is employed as a Music Teacher.

He is also a member of The Wigan Jazz Club Big Band and Intrada Brass Ensemble and a Trombone tutor for Young Lancashire Brass.

Johns Hobbies:

John says that he enjoys playing golf (but not when Andy Cattanach beats him-Cheat!!)

He is also an avid supporter of C.A.M.R.A. (Beer Soldier).

John Mather (2nd Trombone)


John Mather

Date of Birth: 6/5/57

Started playing in: 1969

1st band: Preston Youth Band and lancashire Youth Band.

Previous bands: Bradford Victoria, Haworth Brass Band, Hammonds Sauce Works, Blackburn and Darwin Band and Intrada Brass.

Memorable moments:

Playing ''Resurgam'' at Fleetwood Contest under F. Hough with PrestonYouth Band and winning the section.

Studying under Peter Leary.

Beating all the other Yorkshire Top Section Bands at the British Open with Hammonds.

Playing in a massed band concert at Durham Cathedral under Sir Charles Groves and watching Gordon Higginbottom play ''Flight of the Bumble Bee'' dressed as a Bee!

Winning the Grand Shield with Blackburn and Darwin in 1987.

Living and working in the Bahamas for three years where I was introduced to Jazz Music and ''Pit Band'' work.

Also gained Grade 4 Trumpet with Distinction at this time as well as LTCL in Trombone.

Playing alongside members of the Florida Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra in the first ever production of Grand Opera in Nassau, Bahamas.

Playing with Intrada Brass during the Preston Guild of 1992.

Playing at any time directed by Harry Slater (Frank Salter).

Playing in numerous shows and orchestras locally especially in the premier of ''Joan of Arc'', by Jim Thomas, in the Grand Theatre Blackpool and at the Edibburgh Fringe Festival.

Winning the Fleetwood Conest in Oct, 2006 with Frekleton, my first ever contest with the band.

John teaches at Lytham St Annes High technology College and is in charge of Leisure, Travel and Tourism.

John’s Hobbies:

Walking, Gym and also a member of C.A.M.R.A.

 

Tim Bateman (Bass trombone)


Tim Bateman

A little about Tim....

 

Tim left us a few years ago to experience the life at Fodens.

He did a superb job, did the time, and decided to have a rest.

Then, he got interested in Freckleton again.

We are so glad to have him back in the band!

Tim, in his spare time, plays in a Ceilidh Band.

He loves mountain biking and climbing.

 

Andy Ellis (Bass Trombone)


Andy Ellis

Date of Birth: 1973

Started playing in: 1984

1st band: St. Aidans School Band.

Previous bands: Lancashire Youth Brass Band.
The Revoe Jazz Group and Poulton-Le-Fylde band.

Memorable moments:

· Andy recalls the time when he won the 1st Section Finals with Freckleton.
· He also mentions the time when played with The Leyland Band, playing at Westminster Abbey for Princess Diana.

More about Andy:
Andy is a dedicated member of the band, the band played at his wedding when he married his wife (Porsche).
He has achieved Grade 8 Theory and Practical on the trombone.

Andy’s Hobbies:

Outside of band, Andy enjoys walking his dogs.
He also enjoys watching Motor Sports.
Andy regularly supports Porsche at her many Horse Events.
