Paul Dalton

Liverpool born, Paul Dalton, began his musical life at the age of eight studying the Piano. Within a few short years he was learning to play the Cornet but transferred to the Trombone to accommodate the needs of the School Band.

University in Liverpool saw his playing diversify into Brass Bands and numerous orchestral opportunities. He was privileged to be taught by Eric Jennings, the long serving Principal Trombone of the R.L.P.O.

Upon completing his degree, he moved to a teaching appointment in The Fylde, for many years as Head of Music.

During this time he has played briefly in the Trombone Section of the Northern Dance Orchestra as well as other local Big Bands.

Paul played for a short spell at The Poulton Band before moving to Freckleton Band as a player. After two years he put down the Trombone to begin the work of Resident Conductor.

He worked closely with an assortment of Professionals, including Duncan Beckley, John Golland, Gordon Clough and Roy Curran. During this time the Band progressed from the Fourth to the Championship section.

In 1992 Paul was appointed Professional Conductor of the Blackburn & Darwen Band. He took them from the First Section to the Championship Section in a three-year tenure, including a First Section North West Area win and a trip to the Nationals.

In 1995 he returned to the Freckleton Band as Principal Conductor. Since his return, the band has been the North West Area, First Section Champions, National First Section Champions, and has dominated the Preston & District Championships.

The band has also been a Prize-Winner at the 'Land O' Burns' Contest in Troon on each of its visits, including Champions in the year 2000.
